Will the gold market field on your system hold a number over 999.99? Some systems only allowed a format of ###.## for metal market values. This would have to be increased in all places where the market is stored – Check your system now by trying to input a gold market price of 1000.00 and run a test bill through to check the validity of your pricing. (Don’t forget to VOID the invoice) Possible places you may find a gold market : a gold calendar, a locked gold schedule, your system base market, customer special price locks at fixed markets outstanding memos at customers. Additionally, the fields that hold the gold calculation formulas might need expansion of the variable (field) sizes. Consider also that your increments may need adjustment – If you are charging customers %over gold, you may need to adjust the formulas, as the price will be prohibitive if you use the same percentage over gold at 1000.00, compared to @ 450.00. Check your numbers now, and see that the prices calculated are reasonable, else consider storing the % over gold on a table that is flexible depending on the gold market, e.g. up to 500.00 we get ##% over, up to 700.00, we get ##% over gold etc. Are you locked into a catalog agreement where your fixed price is from 3 months ago? This is a real problem and can represent countless dollars lost. Anticipate the difference and see if you can negotiate a surcharge. Memo merchandise that was shipped at 450.00 is another area to research – Is your customer holding on to the merchandise based on his profit on the gold? Try to recall non selling items, so that you can recoup some of your investment.
